Follow-up/Preparing Your Wedding Rehearsal and Ceremony
Mary Emily Alibrandi - Wedding Sacristan/Coordinator is available to answer all questions regarding planning your wedding rehearsal and ceremony at the Cathedral. She can be reached at email@example.com. Please note: If you have hired a Wedding Planner, be advised that ONLY our Wedding Sacristan/Coordinator will be overseeing/assisting you at the Cathedral for your rehearsal and Wedding Day. Please reach out to her at your earliest convience. Celebrant:
Msgr. Neal E. Quartier will officiate at the wedding. You may invite another priest to officiate. If so, please have him call Msgr. Quartier to discuss arrangements.
Your Appointment with Msgr. Quartier:
After your deposit and baptismal records are recieved, Ms.Secor will refer you to Msgr. Neal Quartier to complete the canonical forms and make initial plans. Msgr. Neal can be reached at 422-4177 extension 12 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your appointment. Both Msgr. Quartier and Ms. Alabrandi are available to meet with couples on a Sunday following 9:45 Mass.
Any priest in good standing with his diocese is welcome to celebrate a wedding at the Cathedral. The bride and groom will be responsible for any stipend to the visiting priest.
If you are marrying a non-Catholic we encourage a wedding ceremony without a Mass so as not to make it uncomfortable for the non-Catholic members of the congregation. If one of the parties is not baptized, there can not be a Mass. The wedding ceremony without the Mass is very similar to the Nuptial Mass with the exception of the Eucharistic prayer and the distribution of communion.
Planning the Wedding Ceremony:
When you meet with Msgr. Quartier he will refer you to a link on this site from which you may choose all the prayers and readings for your wedding service. This SELECTION FORM is to be completed and forwarded to Ms Alabrandi. After your initial meeting with Msgr. Quartier, Ms. Alibrandi will review the overall logistics of the church, rehearsal and wedding day and guide you on planning your ceremony. She will hold a wedding in-service prior to Pre Cana. The in-services will be held in the church from 11:45 am - 12:30 pm.
Candle Lighting Ceremony:
Many couples include this ceremony at their wedding. The mothers (or whoever the bride and groom choose) light individual candles and after the exchange of rings the newly married couple light the wedding candle. The set of three candles is provided by the couple. ( A holder for candles should also be included to ensure correct size)
Letter Writing: Msgr. Quartier will invite the couple to write a letter to their spouse about their hopes and dreams for the marriage. This is strictly voluntary but adds a nice touch to the ceremony. He uses these letters in the homily. The couples usually do not share their letters with each other. The letters are usually one page double spaced.
Please make sure that you obtain a Marriage License at least 48 hours before the ceremony. It must be brought with you at the time of the rehearsal. The Maid of Honor and the Best Man will sign it at the rehearsal as your witnesses. Some couples have more than two witnesses. You must be prepared to have only two witnesses sign the license.
Alan Lynch is the Interim Director of Music at the Cathedral and must be contacted regarding all music. Please contact him at least one month prior to your wedding. He plays the organ as well as the keyboard and piano. He will help you choose music and hire soloists, cantors, musicians. Please be aware that the selection of appropriate music is preferred for the religious portion of the marriage ceremony. Mr. Lynch can be contacted at 422-4177 EXT 31 or email@example.com
Twice a year in October and March, we host an afternoon where different soloists and musicians present their music to the bride and groom. This offers you an opportunity to listen to the different vocalists, harpists, violin players, string quartets, etc. From this you can make choices for your wedding ceremony. They will bill you separately. At that time we usually offer one hour of Pre-Cana to satisfy your obligation. Sharon Secor will inform you of these dates and times. This is an opportunity to meet Msgr. Quartier, Alan Lynch and Mary Emily Alibrandi.
The wedding rehearsal is usually the evening before the ceremony. Ms Alibrandi will book the rehearsal time at your initial meeting for either 5:45 pm or 6:30 pm. Please be considerate of your rehearsal start time, it is very important that you and your wedding party be on time. There may be more than one rehearsal scheduled on a Thursday or Friday evening so if you are late, your rehearsal will be limited. Please note: Rehearsals do not include musicians' rehearsals, professional videographers or photgraphers.
You are welcome to order flowers for the altar. Please consider a local florist to service your flowers at the Cathedral. It is requested that at least one bouquet be left at the church as a gift for the many blessings God has bestowed on you this day.
Groomsmen, please be at the Church one (1) hour before the start of the ceremony. Bride and bridesmaids, must be at the Church 15 minutes before the ceremony. All Mass participants should be at the church one half hour before the ceremony. Due to the activity at the Cathedral, we must insist that you be on time. Please be sure that everyone who participants in the Mass and wedding ceremony is appropriately dressed for church.
Aisle Runners, etc.:
Due to liability concerns and safety issues, the use of aisle runners, petals, candelabras, particularly lit candles or glass are not permitted on the floors at the Cathedral.
If you wish to have a receiving line at the end of the ceremony, the Cathedral offers a lovely urban feel right outside the front doors. During inclement weather the church vestibule is used for this purpose.
The taking of pictures and videoing the ceremony is permissable. Please ask your technology people not to be intrusive. Fees: Effective 2018, the fee for a wedding at the Cathedral is $1,000. A $500 Deposit secures the day and time of the wedding and the remaining $500 is due one month before the wedding. Checks should be made out to "The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception" and are non-refundable unless we are able to schedule another wedding for that date and time. The fee covers the expenses for the Church, the Celebrant (if you use Cathedral personnel), Music Organist, Wedding Sacristan/Coordinator, Maintenance and Security, the Pre-Cana class and Music Showcase. Our wedding team will oversee and help you plan your wedding. Please be considerate of their efforts.
