Baptism
Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharer’s in the Church’s mission. – Catechism of the Catholic Church, Part 2, Article 1.
Scheduling a Baptism at the Cathedral

Baptisms are held every Sunday except during the season of Lent and Easter Sunday.
Baptisms begin promptly at 11:00 A.M. and will last approximately 30 minutes or longer if there is more than one baptism scheduled.
At least one of the parents should be a practicing Catholic and have the intention of raising the child to be a Catholic.
It is customary to have two Godparents, at least one of whom should be a practicing Catholic.
If this is your first child, we hold one 30 minute session at the Cathedral Rectory office a few weeks prior to the baptism.
If you are from out-of-state, a certificate is required stating that you attended a session in your home parish.
Baptisms require approximately 20 minutes.
Photography is permitted throughout the ceremony. Family photos may be taken in front of the altar following the ceremony.
We attempt to limit the number of baptisms to four each week.
There is no fee specified. It is customary to make an offering to the church for the use of the facility.
Please call Sharon Secor at (315) 422-4177 to make an appointment for your child’s baptism.
